How to enable debug mode in your PrestaShop site

PrestaShop includes several settings that you can use to debug your store

Generally, these settings are intended for developers and should not be used on production sites. However, you can also use them in certain scenarios to help you resolve issues you may encounter, such as modules or themes.

How to enable Debug mode in your PrestaShop site

If you have a shared hosting plan such as Personal/Starter/Standard/Performance:

  1. Log in to your customer area or connect to your site via FTP
  2. Use the file manager or your FTP client and edit the defines.inc.php file located in the config folder

If you have a shared hosting plan such as cPanel:

  1. Log in to cPanel or connect to your site via FTP
  2. Use the cPanel file manager or your FTP client and edit the defines.inc.php file located in the config folder

If you have a shared hosting plan such as Plesk:

  1. Log in to your Plesk or connect to your site via FTP
  2. Use the file manager or your FTP client and edit the defines.inc.php file located in the config folder

After opening the defines.inc.php  file to edit it, change the line define('_PS_MODE_DEV_', false); to define('_PS_MODE_DEV_', true); and save the file.

  •  [ADDRESS] version  PrestaShop 1.7, you can do it via your store administration.

To do this, log in to your PrestaShop admin panel, then from the "Advanced Parameters" menu (1) click on "Performance" (2)

  • [PERSON_NAME] then on the "YES" button located to the right of "Debug mode"
